Biography

Cruz was born in December 2010.  He was born a few weeks early and
was planned as a premature delivery due to Mom's medical situation.  He came
home from the hospital vomiting and having issues with constipation.  We had to
switch formulas multiple times because he would vomit and cry so much.  When he
was just a month old, he stopped breathing for the first time.  He was taken by
ambulance to the children's hospital and they initially ruled it as being caused
by severe reflux.  Cruz stopped breathing a few more times and it was later
understood that he was anaphylactic to dairy and rice.

When Cruz was 4 months old we began to introduce some cereals and saw that he
was loosing weight and vomiting more.  At 6 months, we began introducing some
stage 1 baby foods.  He began to develop some patches of eczema and blisters all
around his mouth.  Eventually, the blisters spread all over his face.  I took
him to see an allergist and he skin tested Cruz for the first time.  He didn't
show positive to any of the foods that I had reported issues with.  When I was
giving a brief history on his sister having eosinophilic esophagitis, the
allergist said that Cruz needed to be scoped as soon as possible.

At 8 months old, Cruz had his first EGD with gastroenterologist.  Biopsies were
taken from his esophagus and stomach.  Cruz was diagnosed with eosinophilic
esophagitis and shortly after, failure to thrive.  We were told to remove all
food from his diet and he was put on another kind of amino acid based elemental
formula.  He had his first NG tube placed as well.  At 1 year old, Cruz had his
first surgical procedure for his G-Tube.

Cruz is currently 19 months old, and has trialed several foods.  I'm sad to say,
that at this time, he still does not have any safe foods.  He is also very
sensitive to corn so the fun artifically flavored candies that the other EOS
children get to have, he can not have.
