Biography

When Nolan was two weeks of age the cough began. Now...me and coughs don't get along. I've already been conditioned to hear a horrid cough and think 'asthma attack'. So I was on alert right away. We took him to the ER, and were told it was viral. So we took him home. Well, fast forward to Nolan being 10 weeks old and we were told to start treating him for asthma...4 months he developed croup...and at 5 months we finally were sent to our first specialist. Nolan has a number of different things that were discovered...and discovered very quickly. He has GERD (which is Gastroesophageal reflux disease), he also had been aspirating pretty much everything into his lungs (hence the cough), he has a cleft on his lyranx and he has a narrowed trachea.

This was just the beginning of realizing what our little Nolan would have to endure. Despite the fact that he was born at 37 weeks and was a healthy and happy baby boy. He was born with some of his conditions but it wasn't until he was 6 months old that we began to discover all the challenges our little man would face. As to date he has the following medical conditions: Laryngeal cleft, GERD (silent reflux), aspiration, chronic respiratory disease, chronic lung disease, chronic cough, Tracheal stenosis, asthma, seizures , dsyphagia, B-12 deficiant and sleep apnea.

Some of his intial conditions have led to other diseases and struggles for Nolan. He now is 19 months old and he has developmental delays, has feeding therapy, occupational therapy, and currently sees 9 specialists and therapists. In his short life he has already undergone at least 20 procedures and 8 to 9 surgeries with more still to come. He currently has a mic-key feeding button (gtube), requires oxygen while asleep, undergoes CPT vest treatments multiple times a day, has a suction machine at home and a variety of other medicines and equipment. Despite everything he truly is our Ironman and he has the most infectious smile and happy spirit!

"THANK YOU"

I can not convey to you and all the quilters our gratitude for his beautiful quilt. He has been laying on it most of the morning. We are surprising him with a car themed makeover for his room. His quilt will be perfect. He has had a rough couple of months being in and out of the hospital so once again, thank you for giving him joy and comfort.

Most Sincerely,
Michelle, Nolan and the whole Family
