Biography

June 8, 2009 was a day Johnny's family will never forget. Johnny was supposed to be a heathy full-term baby, the 4th child for our family. However things did not happen as planned. After going to be induced the doctor noticed Johnny was in distress so they decided to do an emergency c-section. Johnny was born with the cord wrapped around his neck three times and unfortunately was very close to death. The hospital that he was delivered at was not equipped to handle such a fragile little guy. So within the hour he was rushed to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC. At CMNC he was placed on a cooling blanket for 72 hours and on a video EEG. Johnny was touch and go for the first 7-10 days but pulled through, he is a fighter. At 10 days old we reviewed the MRI results and the news was not good. He suffered moderate to severe brain damage in his Thalamus and swelling in the white matter and basil ganglia. Finally after 21 days in the NICU he wa
s released from the hospital.

Johnny is now 4 and while he did suffer severe brain damage he definitely makes his family feel very blessed they have him in their life. He is wheelchair bound, non-verbal, not able to sit up on his own or crawl and is mostly G-tube fed. However his smile and laughter can light up any room.

THANK YOU

I just wanted to thank each and every person that worked on this beautiful
quilt.  I feel extremely honored that Johnny was chosen to receive such a
wonderful gift.  He will use this in his bed every night.

Thank you very much,
