Biography

Asher is the most amazing little boy that has been through so much in his short time here. Our journey started when we were pregnant. At our 20 week ultrasound they found that Asher had ventriculomegaly, or fluid on the brain. We went through tons of testing - and in the end we were assured that it was just a random issue that wouldn't affect Asher's life.

Fast forward to when Asher was three months old. We noticed that Asher was not meeting his milestones. He also was dealing with severe reflux. We were referred to a neurologist- and the wait to the appointment was so nerve racking. The neurologist did an MRI that found that not only had his ventriculomegaly worsened but also he was missing part of his corpus callosum and had sustained a stroke while in utero. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. While we were saddened by this news we jumped in with therapies and medications.

On the evening of December 18, 2011 I went to go check on Asher before going to bed. I found that he had vomited all over his bed and that I couldn't wake him up. Wes and I then called 911 and were whisked to Scottish Rite via ambulance. They found that Asher was in a metabolic crisis and that his brain had begun to atrophy. We were in the hospital until December 26. This began our quest to find out what was causing all this in our amazing ball of light.

Finally in June of 2012 Asher was diagnosed with Mitochondrial disease complex 1 and 3, cerebral folate deficiency and a MTHFR deficiency. We have had many ups and downs since then and we are still learning. He is just about to turn 2 and has had 12 hospital admissions but he does it all with a smile on his face and flirts with everyone he meets! He truly is our little ball of light!
